once upon a time …

In 1991, David Makepeace witnessed the most sublime vision in all of Nature: a total eclipse of the Sun.  It was a life-changing experience for the 28 year-old filmmaker and he has been chasing solar eclipses ever since. Unable to escape the powerful truth “that it is the universe that makes total eclipses and it is the universe looking back at them as well,” the simple realization of the interconnectedness of all things sparked a lifelong journey of adventure, self-discovery and spiritual awareness.

From this powerful peak experience came an inspiration that has informed Makepeace’s purpose ever since. The spike in awareness was a consequence of the transformative experience with a total eclipse, and it opened the door to years of voracious learning and curiosity about the world’s wisdom traditions, astronomy and physics. Now a proponent of the idea that peak experience can act as a catalyst for the higher consciousness required for any personal growth, Makepeace presents the highly personal process that lead to a new life and a potent connection to the fundamental mechanics of the Universe.

As an eclipse chaser, he has tirelessly crisscrossed the globe for over 30 years to stand in the shadow of the Moon - visiting all seven continents including three icebreaker expeditions to Antarctica. As a presenter and a popularizer of these events, Makepeace has created award-winning film and video that has inspired thousands - presented to audiences around the world - appeared on radio, tv, in books, magazines and blogs - and provides expert commentary for the world media during eclipse events.
